What makes Thomas Todd scorecard holders different?

Most scorecard holders are made from synthetic materials or low-grade bonded leather. Ours are handmade from full-grain, vegetable-tanned leather — the highest quality leather available. Every piece is hand-stitched in New Zealand, fitted with a magnetic closure, and individually numbered and dated. And through our Milestone Engraving service, your holder becomes a personal record of your greatest moments on the course.

What is vegetable-tanned leather?

Vegetable tanning is the oldest method of turning animal hide into leather, using natural tannins derived from tree bark. It produces a firm, durable leather with a beautiful natural colour that deepens and develops a rich patina over time. It takes weeks or months to produce, compared to hours for chrome tanning. The trade-off is a leather that's more characterful, more durable, and more honest.

Will the leather change over time?

Yes, and that's one of the best things about it. Vegetable-tanned leather develops a patina - a gradual darkening and mellowing of the surface caused by exposure to sunlight, the oils in your hands, and general use. After a few months, your scorecard holder will have a warmth and depth that's uniquely yours. No two pieces age the same way.

How does the magnetic closure work?

Concealed neodymium magnets are set into the leather between layers, so there's no visible hardware. The closure holds the holder firmly shut in your pocket or bag, and opens with a clean, effortless snap when you need your scorecard. The magnets are small and will not interfere with your phone, rangefinder, or any other equipment.

What does the serial number mean?

Every Thomas Todd scorecard holder is individually numbered in the order it was made, along with the month and year of production. No. 001 was the first one we ever made. Your number is unique to your piece and is engraved on the interior. It's our way of marking that each holder is individually crafted and accounted for - and it's the starting point for any milestone engravings you choose to add.

How does Milestone Engraving work?

When you achieve something special on the course - a hole in one, breaking a scoring barrier, a memorable round at a dream course - you can send your holder back to us and we'll engrave the milestone on the interior alongside your serial number. Contact us with the details and we'll provide a prepaid return label. Full details are on our Milestone Engraving page.

Do you offer personalisation?

Yes. We offer monogramming — up to 4 characters, laser engraved on the holder. Add your initials during checkout. Our Milestone Engraving service also allows you to add significant golfing achievements to the interior of your holder after purchase.

Please reach out if you would like further personalisation and we can work together to come up with something special. Additional fees apply

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. We ship worldwide from New Zealand. You'll receive a tracking number by email once your order ships.

Can I return or exchange my purchase?

We offer a 30-day return policy for non-personalised holders in original condition. Because personalised and monogrammed items are made to your specification, they cannot be returned unless faulty. Slight variations in leather colour and grain are normal and are not considered defects — they're part of what makes each piece unique.

How do I care for my scorecard holder?

Keep it away from prolonged water and direct heat. If it gets wet, let it air dry naturally with the pencil removed. Apply a small amount of leather balm or conditioner once or twice a year. Otherwise, just use it — the natural oils from your hands are the best thing for vegetable-tanned leather.
